The great marathon to evaluate every build of Memphis-- HEY NO TAKING SHORTCUTS!!!

Windows 98 introduced support for new types of hardware essential for the growing power of computers in the late 90's, including ACPI, the AGP bus, USB devices, FAT32 for large disk drives, DVD drives, and multiple monitors using different display adapters. Some of them are still widely used today... can you name them? A few of them were also available in later OEM releases of Windows 95, but such releases were never made available for purchase by end users.

Memphis, the development codename for Windows 98, introduced many of the final release's features early on, starting with build 1351 from 1996. In this video, I will demonstrate the following:

  • Build 1351-1532: a multiple monitor setup under using two different S3-based adapters
  • Build 1400 and onward: Internet Explorer 4, and its integration with Windows Explorer
  • Build 1400: Playing Doom II while playing a video on another screen
  • Build 1532 and onward: User selection list (as opposed to manual username entry)
  • Build 1546: Infrared connectivity and DVD playback
  • Build 1619: ACPI power management (buggy, ACPI was removed by Windows when Build 1650 was installed)
  • Build 1619 and 1650: Printing to a USB printer (1619 crashes like in that infamous video)
  • Build 1681: Unreal gameplay!!! AGP bus and OpenGL graphics (couldn't figure out how to get DirectX working with this game)

I plan to start releasing episodes for Hardcore Windows 98 starting in November 2018. In the meantime, LISTEN TO DUSK HORIZON FOR 72 CONSECUTIVE HOURS AND ELEVATE YOUR MIND TO NEW LEVELS BEYOND SPACE AND TIME

I always thought that the 240P Politics DVD Archive was a real thing that was very rare, because I had a kid brain that thought that most stuff was real. But then a year or two later I was like, "Oh, it's just something Kugee himself made." :space_broom:

1:45:08: "I STRONGLY recommend you play Unreal at some point. It's hands down THE BEST FPS of all time."

And wouldn't you know it, just 5 DAYS after this remastered segment came out, Epic Games shows off its flawed nature by delisting both Unreal and Unreal Tournament from Steam for effectively no reason, making it harder for new players to be exposed to its masterclass gameplay and design. I don't really know what to infer from that other than some fuckwad manager has an anti-historical stance on gaming despite Unreal essentially putting Epic in the successful position they're in today.

Blue Horizon: That is the most poorly aged sentence I have ever seen...

Let the ones who forgot their root die horribly.
